此書作者透過主角Melinda的視角以近於日記的敘說方式，讓讀者彷彿身處故事當中的高中校園，也踏進了主角的內心世界，細膩的筆觸刻畫著高中生活的現實與殘酷。遭遇不幸的Melinda選擇用沉默的方式面對周遭世界，但在某一天美術老師的引導下，Melinda決定不再沉默，選擇說出在她內心翻騰卻無法言說的遭遇‧‧‧
